Our tour of Lima begins with a visit to some of the city’s legendary edifices like the Archbishop’s Palace, San Francisco Monastery and the celebrated colonial mansion, Casa Aliga. The rest of the day is spent idyllically taking in the culture, food and local delights of Lima. The Surquillo market is a food haven and we are accompanied by one of Peru’s well-known culinary experts, who steers us towards La Picanteria for a quintessential Peruvian lunch. At the delightful artist district of Barranco, we spend anafternoon exploring galleries, viewing Mari Solari’s “Las Pallas” and revelling in a tête-à-tête with the prominent artist, Jaime Liébana.
A flight to Cusco takes us to the lip-smacking Peruvian cuisine at Jaime Pesaque's restaurant. On to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the dramatic scenery of snow-capped mountains, flowering meadows, lush green hills and spectacular flora and fauna, leaves us amazed. Our itinerary includes a visit to the breeding center of the Camelids, where we get a close look at llamas, alpacas and the rarely found vicuñas. A local Andean market at the village of Pasac provides opportunity for a more traditional fare and souvenir shopping at the artisan stalls.
On the crystal clear waters of the Urubamba River flowing down from the Andes, our expert guides navigate our rafts as the rapids unfold in new avenues of adrenaline and excitement. Later, hungry, we head to lunch at the renowned Casa Hacienda Orihuela followed by an enchanting ride on a Peruvian Paso Horse. The age-old Inca village of Ollantaytambo, gives us a taste of the distinguished culture of the land. Machupicchu, Santo Domingo Monastery, and the golden Korikancha temple are all part of our adventure.
Our journey come to its final leg as we board a luxury liner to embark on skiff expeditions to explore part of the vast Amazon flooded forest, the rivers of Dorado, Pacaya, HatumPosa, Yanayacue, and the Carocurahuayte Lake. With every excursion on these rivers, we see more of the Peruvian rainforest and spot wildlife such as macaws, and the fluffy monk saki monkeys. Activities like night excursions and fishing add to the experience and we sail in the night sky on a voyage as grand as the stars sparkling above us.
